Shazam app launches visual scanning feature

The app that's all-ears to identify those great tunes you hear and love has now been given eyes.

The popular app identifies songs and even TV shows using audio recognition technology, and has recently launched a feature to identify images upon scanning a screen grab, a movie poster, print media or packaged good that have a special Shazam camera icon or QR code. And beyond simple identification, the process can provides an interactive experience.

For example, scanning the print ad for Disney's 'Tomorrowland' would bring you into into a virtual space that allows users to access information and video clips related to the flick.

Other partners include Condé Nast and Time Inc, who are starting by making some of the content of their magazines SELF and Sports Illustrated identifiable and interactive.
