Snapchat launches special AR lenses for Vaisakhi, Gudi Padwa, Puthandu
Snapchat's new AR lenses celebrate the onset of spring and harvest in India.
Snapchat has launched special AR lenses to celebrate the onset of spring and harvest season in India. This festival is celebrated across the country with different regions having a different name for it. In the north and west, it's called Vaisakhi, and Puthandu or Vishu in the south. In the east, the festival is called Pana Sankranti, Bihu and Pahela Baisakh.
Snapchat has made a special lens for each state depending on where it's celebrated. For Vaisakhi that's celebrated in north and west India, especially in Punjab, the Snapchat lens features the traditional dhol that is activated through a hand gesture. It has been created by Jagmeet Singh, one of the first Snapchat Official Lens Creators in India. He is also known for the popular ‘Dark Moody' lens on Snapchat.
Snapchat also has a special lens for Gudi Padwa that is celebrated to mark the beginning of the New Year in Maharashtra. This festival also marks the onset of the ensuing summer season. Then there's one for Puthandu in Tamil Nadu which is celebrated as the first day of the traditional Tamil calendar. This Snapchat lens has the message “Happy Tamil New Year” with a diya.
