Spotify has announced Connect, a new feature allowing subscribers to the music streaming service to control the playback of tracks on a number of home audio systems through a smartphone or tablet.

Spotify users will soon be able to listen to their favorite albums on compatible stereo systems through the Spotify mobile app without affecting other applications on their mobile terminal. This means that it will be possible to make calls, text and even watch videos on the internet with the same mobile device that is sending the music stream to the speakers. In addition, users will be able to control the stereo system remotely through their smartphones and tablets.

Spotify Connect will be available to the platform's Premium subscribers in the coming months, initially for the iPhone and iPad, then on Android devices, and finally for the PC/Mac version of Spotify.

The concept will be available on a long list of audio systems and speakers, including models from Argon, Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Philips, Pioneer and Yamaha. A dedicated Spotify Connect logo will indicate compatibility on new models.
