Spotify launches podcasts for Indian listeners

Spotify has also signed an exclusive deal with gaathastory to produce children’s podcasts.

Spotify on Wednesday announced four new podcasts from India. The new lineup features four new Spotify Originals including Darr Ka Raaz with Dr. Phobia, The RJ Balaji Podcast, Andar Ki Baat by Amit Tandon, and Crime Kahaniyan. Spotify has also signed an exclusive deal with gaathastory to produce children’s podcasts.

Darr Ka Raaz with Dr. Phobia features Rajesh Khera as psychotherapist Dr. Grewal for a fiction show that features stories about “uncovering hidden secrets by treating patients through hypnosis and past life regression therapy.” This podcast will be available starting tomorrow. The RJ Balaji Podcast will be a weekly podcast, and it will be hosted by actor, director and radio voice RJ Balaji. This podcast will focus on contemporary issues and topics. It will be available in the coming weeks.

Andar Ki Baat by Amit Tandon will be a Hindi comedy show featuring the comedian Amit Tandon talking about common experiences and places. Crime Kahaniyan as the name suggests, will be a weekly Hindi podcast about crime stories ranging from unsolved murders, to abductions, crimes of passion, and more.

Spotify’s podcasts for kids by gaathastory will also go live in the coming weeks. It will feature a collection of children’s podcasts - Baalgatha, Fairytales of India, Devgatha, and Veergatha. The podcasts will be available in Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, and Telugu.

The new podcasts add to Spotify’s growing catalogue of original content. It currently has more than 30 local Spotify Originals here. India is also becoming one of the fastest growing markets for the podcast-making platform Anchor where Hindi is also one of the top languages.
