'Star Wars' figures in 'Disney Infinity' plans
Producers suggest that a set of Star Wars models is coming to the toy and video game crossover "Disney Infinity" in 2015.
Producers suggest that a set of Star Wars models is coming to the toy and video game crossover 'Disney Infinity' in 2015.
The hybrid toy line might have started off playing catch-up to Activision's revamped 'Skylanders' series, which proved there was a big appetite for collectible figurines that could interact with video games, but Disney is leaning heavily on its catalogue of licensed characters.
Marvel's roster is making its way into the game by way of upcoming September release 'Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes,' featuring characters from 'The Avengers,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Spider-Man.'
Next year will see 'Star Wars' come to 'Disney Infinity,' if barely disguised hints from the game's two producers are being interpreted correctly.
Teasing future developments in an interview with Newsarama, game studio CEO John Blackburn told executive producer John Vignocci that he liked the line 'We can talk about the future, but that's far, far away.'
Referencing the famous opening crawl from the 'Star Wars' films, Vignocci responded by saying '2015 is not so far, far away anymore, is it?'
'Disney Infinity' launched for multiple home consoles, PC and iPad towards the end of 2013, with its second edition, 'Marvel Super Heroes,' set to capitalize on recent cinematic outings from Disney's stable of comic book characters.
With 'Star Wars: Episode VII' set for a theatrical opening on December 18, 2015, talk of a 'Disney Infinity' tie-in the same year does not seem farfetched at all.
