Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been awarded company shares worth 1,359 crores, making him the highest paid CEO in the United States.

The 273,328 shares that Pichai has received takes his total holdings in Alphabet Inc, Google's parent company, to a sweet 4,415 crore (which, for context, is approximately 12% of the MNREGA budget).

The IIT Kharagpur alumnus' exact salary, however, remains a mystery, and will only be on public record in March, after Google files a proxy statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It is currently estimated to be around 339 crores per annum.

The Chennai-born CEO was not alone in being awarded a significant number of company shares, however.

Alphabet's chief financial officer, Ruth Porat, received shares amounting to approximately 254.6 crores, while Diana Greene, who has been in charge of Google's cloud computing services since November 2015, was awarded roughly 286.76 crores.
