Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been awarded company shares worth ₹1,359 crores, making him the highest paid CEO in the United States.
The 273,328 shares that Pichai has received takes his total holdings in Alphabet Inc, Google's parent company, to a sweet ₹4,415 crore (which, for context, is approximately 12% of the MNREGA budget).
The IIT Kharagpur alumnus' exact salary, however, remains a mystery, and will only be on public record in March, after Google files a proxy statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It is currently estimated to be around ₹339 crores per annum.
The Chennai-born CEO was not alone in being awarded a significant number of company shares, however.
Alphabet's chief financial officer, Ruth Porat, received shares amounting to approximately ₹254.6 crores, while Diana Greene, who has been in charge of Google's cloud computing services since November 2015, was awarded roughly ₹286.76 crores.
