A new software update is now available for the owners of some of the latest Nokia devices out there, bringing the new Symbian Anna platform to smartphones such as the Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8.

The new OS upgrade was announced a few months ago, when Nokia unveiled new mobile phones running under it, but the update process for existing handsets has started only now.

At the moment, the new software update is being pushed to devices as version 22.014 in a series of markets in Europe and Asia, including the UK, France, and Italy, it seems.

The update process will take around 20 minutes, with the exact timing being largely dependent on the speed of your Internet connection. While all your apps and data will be preserved we would still recommended following the prompt to perform a backup before downloading and installing the update.

has a full changelog, including such niceties as device encryption support - offering optional hardware-accelerated encryption for the device, mass storage and microSD memory - along with better Mail and Calendar apps, a draggable homescreen and Ovi Maps 3.6 fresh out of Nokia's Beta Labs.

Now that Symbian Anna is here, the focus will inevitably shift to the yet unannounced Symbian Belle which is expected to be unveiled later this month in a event in Hong Kong. But before you start waiting, don't expect to see it on existing devices for the next two months.
