The elegant, expansive "Tales" series has won plenty of plaudits during its time on consoles, but its newest addition, "Tales of Asteria," will be making its way to smartphone instead.
The elegant, expansive 'Tales' series has won plenty of plaudits during its time on consoles, but its newest addition, 'Tales of Asteria,' will be making its way to smartphone instead.
Spring 2014 is the target for 'Tales of Asteria,' which brings together characters from six previous series entries.
With a soft, anime visual style and lush, detailed backgrounds, 'Asteria' is an opportunity for publisher and developer Namco to introduce a new audience to the 'Tales' series, while reminding long-term fans of a 20-year legacy that culminates in upcoming PS3 title 'Tales of Zestiria.'
Will 'Asteria' make it to app markets outside of Japan? Series producer Hideo Baba had already said there was 'some possibility that future 'Tales' social or Social Network Service titles on the iOS and Android platforms may be released overseas.'
'But I think, if we want to do that, we would want to release the game at the same time [all over the world],' he told Silicon Era in October 2013. So there's a chance, but it depends on any pre-existing agreement with Japanese networks GREE and Mobage.
