Tata Tele launches Wi-Fi service at Delhi airports
The company announced launch of the service at Delhi's domestic and international airports enabling travellers to use high-speed Net.
Tata Teleservices on Friday announced the launch of its Wi-Fi service at both domestic and international airports in Delhi enabling air travellers to use high-speed Internet.
The service would be available at a cost of ₹30 for 30 minutes at domestic airport and ₹60 at international airport, the company's chief operating officer of Delhi circle, Naresh Malhan said.
For a 60-minute surfing card, the charges are ₹50 at domestic airport and ₹100 at international airport.
'Air travellers and frequent fliers can avail Wi-Fi service at domestic and international lounge of Delhi airport and security zone after check-in,' Malhan said, adding that the company had bagged the contract from Airports Authority of India (AAI) about a year back.
Asked about the investments, Malhan said the company invested about ₹20 lakh to set up the infrastructure and pointed out that operational expenses for running the system on day-to-day basis were quite high.
He, however, said: 'we are expecting to achieve the break-even from this segment in 12 months of operations.'
Tata Teleservices would also launch the service at Bangalore and Chennai airports. The company was in the process to signing MoUs with some other airports in the country to provide Wi-Fi services.
The company would also provide access cards to travellers to make their laptops Wi-Fi enabled.
Commenting on the initiative, AAI director PS Nair this was just one of the many steps taken by AAI in its endeavour to make Delhi airports world class.
