Tecno Mobile’s Camon iTwin is the latest entrant in the budget smartphone segment. Here’s a detailed look at how it compares against budget front-runner, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

Camon iTwin is the latest offering from Transsion Holdings' Tecno Mobile. The smartphone comes with a decent set of specifications and features for the highly competitive budget phone segment.

Tecno Camon iTwin is pitted against front-runners, such as Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. Based on the specifications, price and features, here's a detailed comparison of Camon iTwin and Redmi Note 5.

Design and Display

Design-wise, neither phone offers a standout look although both have some differentiating factors. Redmi Note 5 has curved edges as opposed to Camon iTwin which has a proper bar form factor. The rear panel also differs as Camon iTwin's dual cameras are placed at the top left corner. Redmi Note 5 has its camera lens placed at the top centre.

Tecno Camon iTwin features a 6-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a 2.5D curved glass layered on top. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with the same 18:9 aspect ratio. This smartphone's display is also wrapped with a 2.5D glass on top.

Processor, RAM and Storage

Camon iTwin has Qualcomm's Snapdagon 425 processor running under its hood. Redmi Note 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC. Both processors were launched at the same time with 625 being the stronger one.

In terms of storage, Camon iTwin comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt memory. Redmi Note 5 is available in two variants of 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage and 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage.

Camera

Camon iTwin sports a dual-camera setup at the rear which has become a common trend among even in budget phones. The combination includes a 13-megapixel wide-angle f/2.0 sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor. For selfies, there's a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and front flash.

Redmi Note 5 has a single rear 12-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF support. Up front it houses a 5-megapixel camera with LED selfie-light, and Beautify 3.0 for selfies.

Battery, connectivity and OS

Camon iTwin and Redmi Note 5 both pack a 4,000mAh battery. Connectivity options also remain the same on both phones. These include dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

On the software front, both phones run custom UIs based on Android OS. Camon iTwin runs HiOS based on Android 8.0 Oreo, while Redmi Note 5 has MIUI 9 based on the older Android 7.1 Nougat.

Price and availability

Camon iTwin is priced at 11,499 and will be available via retail outlets. The base model of Redmi Note 5 can be availed at a cheaper price of 9,999. The top-end model is priced slightly higher than Camon iTwin at 11,999 but offers more storage.
