Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2.0: The earphones with a bass kick

Tekfusion is an Indian earphone firm created by Jayesh Mehta, a self-confessed audiophile, and the Twinwoofers M 2.0 is the latest addition to its line of in-ear monitors.

The Twinwoofers M 2.0, which were provided for this review by Tekfusion, come in just one colour - matte black and look gorgeous.

These are nicely engineered and built IEMs - the ear pieces are aluminium, which the firm says it chose over plastic to remove resonance, the cable is transparent, giving a view of wire within, and the strain relief is above average.

These IEMs come with three pairs of regular silicone ear tips and two pairs of triple-flange ear tips, a shirt clip and a sturdy black carrying case. The medium sized regular ear tips worked fine for me and the isolation was very good, with Tekfusion claiming that the ear pieces cancel up to 20dB of ambient noise.

The ear pieces are also extremely light, weighing in at just 9.5 grams without the cable, and the Twinwoofers M 2.0 were comfortable even during extended use. The cable, which terminates in a 3.5mm jack, remained relatively tangle-free, even after being wound up and stashed away in a pocket.

The IEMs use what Tekfusion describes as 10mm "HD Dynamic" drivers with a frequency response of 19-21KHz.

The Twinwoofers M 2.0 are voiced a little darker than most IEMs, and offer up plenty of bass. This is not to say that the pronounced bass comes at the cost of the highs or the mids. The bass hit hard but it didn't drown out everything else, though I would have preferred slightly more air around the highs.

How do they sound?

Tears For Fears' concert for Spotify has become my go-to live performance to test headphones, because it's so well recorded, and listening to it with the Twinwoofers M 2.0 was a fun experience, especially on the track Head Over Heels, which has a slamming bass line.

The Twinwoofers M 2.0 shone with all kinds of rock and dance music though they might not be the go-to IEMs if your tastes veer towards folk, jazz or any other genre that requires a tad more finesse.

These IEMs also work for watching movies or TV shows, with voices and sound effects coming through nice and clear. Given that most folks use their phones nowadays to stream video, the Twinwoofers M 2.0 might be the ideal addition if you're looking for something that can handle music and video.

The in-line remote, which has a single button for accepting calls and controlling music playback, worked fine with all Android phones. (Sorry Apple fanboys, I don't use iPhones, so I couldn't test them with Apple products.) Calls came through very clearly and I had no problems hearing the party at the other end.

With a price of ₹1,999, these are an ideal fit for anyone who mostly listens to rock and dance music and is looking for a good pair of IEMs to pair with their smartphones.
