The latest iOS update is here and iPhone users should download and install it right away
Apple has rolled out a new update for both the iPhone and the iPad which brings in an important security fix for a bunch of critical vulnerabilities. The iOS 14.4.2, as Apple describes it, “provides important security updates and is recommended for all users”. Apple also said that this update includes a fix for Webkit that may have been actively exploited.
Apple mentioned earlier that a bug in the Webkit may have allowed malicious websites to perform cross-site scripting arbitrarily and that they were aware of a report that stated that the bug was being exploited in the wild.
How to install it:
- All iPhone users need to head over to their Settings.
- From here, click on General and then on Software Update.
- Here you will see the new update that you will have to download and install.
This iOS 14.4.2 comes just days before the beta rollout of the iOS 14.5 and Apple is expected to release these developer beta seeds of the iOS 14.5 over the next month.
The iOS 14.5 is going to come with a bunch of new features, particularly the ability to unlock the Apple iPhone with the Apple Watch. This new feature will help address the issue of not being able to use the face unlock with the mask on.
The iOS 14.5 will also bring in the App Tracking Transparency which will show new permission dialogs in the apps before they share information related to user identification with third-party apps and services.
Apple has also released the watchOS 7.3.3 for the Apple Watch and a patch update to iOS 12, version 12.5.2, for the iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, third-gen iPad mini, first-gen iPad Air and the sixth-gen iPod Touch users.
