WhatsApp is likely to allow users to share media files of upto 2GB very soon! After the release of the new WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.7.0.76 update that brings support for iOS 15, WhatsApp is now reportedly testing this new feature that lets people share media files up to 2GB in size. As reported by WhatsApp development tracker WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app is testing this feature in Argentina. Know what this new feature is and how it can be helpful to you.

What is the new WhatsApp feature

WhatsApp has been keen on introducing new features to make the platform more user friendly. The instant messaging app is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to send a media file of upto 2 GB. As of now WhatsApp users can share media files of upto 100MB size only. The screenshot of the new feature shared by WABetaInfo, shows WhatsApp's pop up notification that says “you can send media files of upto 2 GB”. However, this is only available in Argentina for now and it is limited to a certain number of beta testers. In fact, it's yet to be confirmed if WhatsApp is planning to roll out the same feature to more people in the future or not. WhatsApp may roll back the changes by restoring the previous limit after the testing.

Moreover, WhatsApp is also testing indicators for end-to-end encryption on its WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.8.7 update. A new footer is spotted at the bottom of the call history, indicating that users' calls are end-to-end encrypted and nobody, not even WhatsApp and Meta, can listen to them. WhatsApp may be planning to roll out the same footer at the bottom of the chats list and status updates.

Meanwhile WhatsApp recently added another useful feature for its users - emoji shortcuts. Users can now simply type a colon followed by a keyword to find their preferred emoji quickly and share them during their conversations. While this feature was available for WhatsApp Web/Desktop only, it is now available for the Windows platform also. All you need to do is download the latest app update from the Microsoft store. According to WABetainfo, users need not wait for activation as it's already enabled for all.
