Twitter changes default profile image from an egg to human, Tweeple react
Twitter changed the design to disassociate its avatar from social media trolls who remain anonymous on the micro-blogging website.
Twitter has changed its default profile photo from "Twitter egg" as a user's default profile image to a human silhouette.
The micro-blogging website has been trolled repeatedly for its "Twitter egg", which was the default image for users who don't upload any image.
The 'egg' was often associated negatively with users who created accounts to harass or troll others. Twitter wanted to eliminate that connection, ReCode reported on Friday.
"This has created an association between the default egg profile photo and negative behaviour, which is not fair to people who are still new to Twitter and have not yet personalised their profile photo," Twitter wrote in a blog post.
"It was important to explore alternate head shapes. We reviewed many variations of our figure, altering both the head and shoulders to feel more inclusive to all genders," the company said.
The users were quick to react on the website, with many demanding the 'egg' back while others mocked the new design as just "another egg". Here are some of the hilarious responses:
honestly the new default twitter icon could just be an egg thinking about another egg pic.twitter.com/KJhzOOd1gI

Since Twitter has gotten rid of the egg icons, I guess this clip is appropriate pic.twitter.com/4hMSewpHnC

Us: there's a correlation between harassment and egg accounts.
