Twitter marked its ninth birthday on March 21, 2015, with 9 tweets recalling some of the biggest posts from its history.

"We continue to say that Twitter is what it is because of the people who use it. After all, it's because of you that we have product features like hashtags and best practices like live-Tweeting," Gabriel Stricker, Twitter chief communications officer, wrote in a blog post .

The very first tweet came from co-founder Jack Dorsey, back when the service did not use vowels in its official name - 'Just setting up my twttr', he wrote on March 21, 2006.
