When Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, sent out his first Twitter message: 'just setting up my twttr' in March 2006, little did he know that his little blue bird is going to become the multi-million entity that it is today. Popularly known as the 'SMS of the internet', Twitter lets people share bite-sized updates about their life and follow the updates of people that matter in just 140 characters.

Founded by Dorsey, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams in March 2006, the micro-blogging site was launched publicly in July 2006. After Williams stepped down in October 2006, Dick Costolo was appointed the company's CEO.
