Canonical has decided to offer its Ubuntu operating system on tablets as well as on smartphones. A developer's version of Ubuntu Touch will be available for download from Thursday, February 21.
For now, in terms of tablets, the download will only work on Nexus 7 and 10. However, the system should be compatible with all 6- to 20-inch screens with resolutions of 100 to 450 ppi.
At the beginning of January, at CES in Las Vegas, Canonical unveiled its mobile operating system project for smartphones that comes with a Picture Manager, Music Player and a map service as standard.
However it isn't the only company challenging Android and iOS in the mobile operating systems field. Indeed, the Mozilla Foundation will soon be unveiling Firefox OS, its own completely open mobile solution.
