Ubuntu TV unveiled at CES
After a year of smart TV announcements, yet another one is on the horizon. Canonical has unveiled Ubuntu TV at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas. The TV is expected on the shelves by the end of this year.
After a year of smart TV announcements, yet another one is on the horizon. Canonical has unveiled Ubuntu TV at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas.
Ubuntu TV is a TV-optimized version of the desktop OS, based around the Unity UI. It features full-on media center and DVR features, including movie, TV and music stores, and a YouTube app. The idea is to make the OS free for manufacturers to package with their TVs, and Ubuntu says there will be TVs on shelves by the end of the year, reports Gizmodo.com
The company expects the Ubuntu-powered television to be on the shelves by the end of this year.
