COP 17 -- properly the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change -- is a meeting of parties to the Kyoto Protocol. The primary focus of the conference is to establish a global agreement of climate change issues to replace the Kyoto Protocol which is due to expire in 2012.
This year's event, the 17th session follows on from COP16 in Cancun and 2009's COP 15 in Copenhagen. These previous two sessions were generally seen as unsuccessful due to the failure to establish a binding agreement on climate change.
The new iOS apps released by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on November 23 provide the user with regularly updated information throughout COP 17 and also provide details of related UN events throughout the following year.
