Facebook is testing increased functions for users to buy and sell items on the social network site, marking another move by the company to diversify its capabilities and keep users on the site for longer.

While users have already been able to sell items, the new option would show on the news feed a unified view of items for sale across user groups.

While the new functions are currently being tested, TNW says Facebook will be rolling it out worldwide in the coming weeks.

The move gears up the social network site to compete with online marketplaces such as Craigslist and eBay.

The news comes on the heels of another ongoing test launch of an internal search engine on the Facebook app to allow users to find and post links in status updates without ever leaving the site.
