WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. It has features that enable users to share to share media files such as videos, audio files and GIFs. It also lets users share documents and PDF files. This is of great help for the people who share files and documents over the phone frequently. But on the flip side, it also consumes a lot of storage space, which can be troublesome for people who don't have smartphones with expandable storage or phones with bigger memory.

Now, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will solve the memory woes of all iPhone and Android smartphone users. The company is working on a new feature that will not help users see how much space their media files and documents are consuming on their smartphones, but it will also enable users to manage those files easily.

As of now, the Storage Usage section in the Data and Storage Usage settings shows the amount of space occupied by individual contact or group. Now, Facebook-owned messaging app is planning to design this section completely such that users not only get a contact-wise breakdown of the usage of storage space but they will also be able to manage all their large files separately.

The redesign, as per a report by WABetaInfo, will comprise of three sections. The first section will show a bar graph of the storage space used. The second section will show suggested clean up option. Here WhatsApp will show forwarded files and large files separately such that users can delete the files that they deem are not necessary. The final section will show a chat-wise break up of the storage space used.

This feature is currently in the developmental stage and it is expected to arrive on the company's Android and iOS apps once WhatsApp is done testing and debugging this feature.
