Xiaomi Mi 8 compared against OnePlus 6, Honor 10: Price, specifications, features compared

Here’s a detailed comparison between the latest flagship smartphones - Xiaomi Mi 8, OnePlus 6 and Honor 10.

Xiaomi entered the flagship smartphone scene with the Mi 8. The smartphone boasts top end specifications along with features feeding every trending tech.Along with the Mi 8, Xiaomi also launched Mi 8 SE (Special Edition), and Mi 8 Explorer Edition.

Xiaomi's Mi 8 goes head to head with the recently launched OnePlus 6 and another tough competitor, Honor 10. Keeping the specifications, price and features in mind, here's how Mi 8 compares against OnePlus 6 and Honor 10.

Display and design

Xiaomi Mi 8 features a  6.21-inch AMOLED display, full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Honor 10 has a slightly smaller 5.84-inch display with the same full HD+ resolution. OnePlus 6, on the other hand has an almost same 6.28-inch full HD+ Optic AMOLED display with 19:9 aspect ratio.

Design wise all three smartphones are similar sporting the trending notch display and a glass back. Honor 10 has an aurora glass design which changes colours from different angles. OnePlus introduced glass back for the first time with the OnePlus 6. Mi 8 also comes with a glass back, vertical cameras and a circular fingerprint sensor.

Processor, RAM and storage

Xiaomi's Mi 8 and OnePlus 6 both run Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 845 processor. Honor 10 runs in-house Kirin 970 octa-core processor which is a neuro processing unit. In terms of storage, Mi 8 comes with .

In terms of storage, Xiaomi Mi 8 comes with 6GB of RAM with storage options of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. OnePlus 6 is available in two variants of 6GB RAM plus 64GB storage, and 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage. There's a Marvel Avengers edition which comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Honor 10 in India is offered in only one model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Camera

In the photography department, Xiaomi Mi 8 sports a pair of 12-megapixel AI dual cameras at the rear. The cameras are equipped with Dual pixel autofocus, AI portraits, AI scene detection, and video editing software. Up front, it houses a 20-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture with AI portrait selfies, and AI Beautify mode. Xiaomi's Mi 8 also comes with Apple iPhone's 'Studio Lighting' mode which is available on the Honor 10 as well.

OnePlus 6 sports a dual-camera setup of 16-megapixel Sony IMX 519 sensor, and a 20-megapixel Sony IMX 376K sensor. Up front there's a 16-megapixel Sony IMX 371 camera with f/2.0 aperture. OnePlus 6's cameras come with slow motion video recording at 480 frames per second, OIS, EIS, and portrait mode. Honor 10 also has dual cameras comprising of 24-megapixel and 16-megapixel sensors with 4K recording capabilities. For selfies it offers a 24-megapixel with full HD video recording.

Battery, OS and connectivity

Xiaomi Mi 8 is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery, while OnePlus 6 uses a 3,300mAh battery, and Honor 10 has a 3,400mAh battery. On the software front all three phones run Android OS but with custom UIs layered on top. Xiaomi Mi 8 runs MIUI 10 based Android Oreo, while OnePlus 6 has its OxygenOS based Android Oreo running. Honor 10 runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.0

Connectivity options on OnePlus 6 include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, 4G VoLTE, 3.5mm audio jack and dual SIM support. Honor 10 also offers dual SIM support along with Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, micro USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Xiaomi Mi 8 comes with NFC, USB Type-C, dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, and Bluetooth 5.0. Xiaomi Mi 8 also offers 'Dual GPS' which the company says gives more accurate location by eliminating radio disturbances from buildings. It also reduces signal delays, making navigation super fast.

For security, OnePlus 6 comes with face unlock along with a rear fingerprint sensor. Honor 10 also has face unlock with a home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Honor however offers an ultrasonic under glass fingerprint sensor which unlocks the device even with wet fingers. Xiaomi Mi 8 has a rear fingerprint sensor along with 'Infrared Face Unlock' which lets users unlock the phone by looking at the screen even in the dark.

Pricing and availability

OnePlus 6 starts at 34,999 for the base variant and 39,999 for the model with 128GB storage. The Avengers edition of OnePlus 6 retails at 44,999. OnePlus 6 is available online via Amazon India and the company's e-store and across authorised retailers including Croma.

Honor 10 is priced at 32,999 and can be bought exclusively via Flipkart and the company's online store. The base model of Xiaomi Mi 8 is priced at CNY 2,999 which roughly translates to 31,600. A proper price comparison cannot be made since we don't have the Indian pricing for Mi 8. Xiaomi will be launching its flagship smartphone in India soon which will give us a better idea.
