Xiaomi on Tuesday announced the launch of Redmi Note 5 in India. Surprisingly, the Chinese company also unveiled a pro version of the device. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is touted as "India's camera beast", and will retail at 13,999 for the base model. The smartphone's high-end model is priced at 16,999.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available for purchase starting February 22 via Flipkart and the company's offline channels as well.

The 'Pro' version offers slight upgrades over Redmi Note 5 with its main focus being on the smartphone camera. Redmi Note 5 Pro features a dual-camera setup at the rear which is a combination of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors with f/2.2 and f/2.0 apertures respectively. Redmi Note 5 bears a stark resemblance to Apple's iPhone X with the placement of its dual rear cameras.

The dual cameras on Redmi Note 5 work together for depth-of-field effect by blurring out the background and focusing on the subject. The primary camera is said to capture more light than typical smartphone cameras, while the secondary camera creates bokeh effect. The dual rear cameras also feature Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) for videos.

For selfies, there's a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor with Beautify 4.0 AI algorithm, and selfie light for low-light conditions. The smartphone also debuts Beautify 4.0 Beautify 4.0 which identifies different skin variations. The selfie camera also comes with 'Portrait Mode' for bokeh effect making it a first for a Xiaomi smartphone. Here, Xiaomi used a deep learning algorithm to produce bokeh effect on a single camera.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro specifications

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has the same 5.99-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display with a 2.5D curved glass layered on top. There are three storage variants for Redmi Note 5 starting with 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage. The mid-variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The high-end model has 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage, making it the first Xiaomi smartphone in India with this RAM capacity.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first smartphone to run Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 processor under its hood. This chipset uses the latest Kyro technology which is usually found in the high-end 800-series chipsets.

Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat based on the latest MIUI 9 customOS. It's 4,000mAh battery is claimed to offer long-lasting power along with MIUI optimisations.

Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 Pro will also get 'Face Unlock' feature via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update in March.
