Xiaomi smartphone with Snapdragon 730 SoC to launch in India soon

Xiaomi’s next smartphone in India will be powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 730 processor.

Xiaomi launched two smartphones in India this week, and the company is already teasing another launch. Xiaomi's next smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 700-series processor.

Xiaomi India head, Manu Kumar Jain tweeted a photo with two Qualcomm officials. In the tweet, he mentions that the next Xiaomi phone with the recently launched Snapdragon 730 chipset will be coming to India soon.

Snapdragon 730 is Qualcomm's latest mid-range chipset launched earlier this month along with Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 665. Qualcomm said smartphones powered by these chipsets will be available in the second half this year.

With the Snapdragon 730 SoC, Qualcomm introduced high-end features and specifications available in the premium 800-series. This chipset comes with the Qualcomm Spectra 350 along with a dedicated Computer Vision (CV) ISP. With more power savings, Snapdragon 730 SoC also allows 4K HDR videos in Portrait Mode. This chipset also supports triple-camera setups with ultra-wide, portrait and telephoto lens.

Gaming is another key focus of Snapdragon 730 SoC with Adreno 618 GPU and Vulkan 1.1 backing it up. Qualcomm says this chipset consumes 20% less power, offers better graphics and longer battery life as well. In terms of specifications, Snapdragon 730 is powered by a Kyro 470 CPU and is based on an 8nm process node. It comes with Snapdragon X15 LTE modem and Wi-Fi 6 support.

This is the first confirmation from Xiaomi of a Snapdragon 730 powered smartphone, but there have been leaks of a new Redmi phone with this chipset. This Redmi smartphone was leaked with a 4,000mAh battery, a triple-camera setup of 48-megapixel, 8-megapixel and 13-megapixel sensors. It also comes with a pop-up selfie camera.

There's no confirmation yet on whether this phone would be launched under Xiaomi or Redmi.
