In anticipation of the blockbuster releases this summer with a cinematic hit each week, Yahoo will launch Movieland, an interactive online game including 35 of the upcoming films.
This weekend's release of Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator and the comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting starring Elizabeth Banks, as well as Tim Burton's Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp and the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart will be featured, with trailers, trivia and tickets available for purchase.
Like an online board game, each square on Movieland represents a different film, divided up into the genres sci-fi thrillers, romantic-comedies, kids & family and action & adventure.
Log onto Movieland's Facebook page and participate in quizzes to earn online badges and win prizes, such as signed posters and free tickets. Also, red-carpet premieres will be streamed live.
Movieland will be featured at the upcoming Comic-Con event in July with a large life-sized version set up for fans to walk through as if inside the game with real props from the summer films.
The game marks the effort to transition from a web portal and search engine to a site offering content that engages readers and offers a service. Recently, Yahoo streamed the premieres of blockbuster The Hunger Games.
Movieland is a partnership with Universal, Warner Bros., Lionsgate and Paramount studios with films featured including Rock of Ages starring Tom Cruise, Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale, The Expendables 2 with Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, plus more.
