Casio launches the first Wear OS-powered G-Shock watch

The GSW-H1000 smartwatch is powered by Google's Wear OS making it a first in the G-Shock lineup.

Casio has launched the first G-Shock smartwatch powered by Google's Wear OS. Casio GSW-H1000, a G-SQUAD PRO smartwatch is designed for outdoor sports including surfing and snowboarding.

The G-Shock watch will go on sale in the US and the UK for $699 and £599, respectively. It will be available in three colour options of red, blue and black. The watch has a urethane band for flexibility and durability, and a titanium case back that is said to resist corrosion. It also features a titanium carbide finish for enhanced abrasion resistance. The smartwatch is also 200-meter water resistant.

The GSW-H1000 runs on Wear OS giving the smartwatch access to apps from Google Play, Google Assistant and Google Fit. The smartwatch also supports messages and phone calls, notifications, agenda, weather forecast and more. It also has the Casio original app which comes with support for 15 activities and 24 indoor workout options.

In terms of specs, the GSW-H1000 features a 1.2-inch LCD display with 360x360 pixels resolution. It is equipped with a Lithium-ion battery that takes around three hours at room temperature. The watch is said to last for 1.5 days on normal use with the colour display. With timekeeping and sensors only, it should go on for a month. It has Bluetooth 4.2 for connectivity, and is equipped with GPS, microphone and vibrator. The watch also has a pressure sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, compass, and optical sensor for heart rate measurement.
