Samsung indirectly confirms Galaxy Watch 3 features via an app
There are still a few days before Samsung unveil its unannounced Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatch. However, the firm itself seems to be giving away chunks of information about the product before it gets launched. This time the South Korean tech firm has released its Galaxy Watch 3 Plugin app. Although it doesn't reveal much on the surface, XDA Developers have gone through the apk file and have found several new features that will come to the new watch.
The first feature is the support for hand gestures. This essentially means that you can clench and unclench your hands on which you're wearing the Galaxy Watch 3, to pick up a phone call. And since the watch will sport a speaker, you can talk using the watch itself, without even taking out the smartphone from your pockets. It is possible to shake the hand to ignore the incoming call.
Galaxy Watch 3 will also let you take screenshots but in a new way. Now you can press both side buttons at the same time to take the screenshot. Earlier one would have to hold the bottom button while swiping left.
Fall Detection will be a new feature coming to the smartwatch, as hinted in the apk file of the app. It is supposed to work in the same manner as the SOS mode. As mentioned by the website, Galaxy Watch 3 will ring for 60 seconds when it detects a fall. If you don't respond to it, your location and 5-second sound recording to your emergency contact will be sent.
The apk file also gave away the default watch faces that will come with the wearable device. Some of them also include the upcoming Galaxy Note20 wallpapers.
And in case you are still thinking of the product will be called as Galaxy Watch 3 or not, a support page listing found by Android.ro clearly shows the site calling it's as Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. The website also mentioned that at least one of the variants will have 41mm case and stainless steel build. Speculations are that there could be a 45mm build as well. There is no other information mentioned though.
We expect the Galaxy Watch 3 to launch alongside the Galaxy Note20 series on August 5 at the Galaxy Unpacked event.
