GeForce gets ChromeOS support without one important feature

Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, GeForce, finally rolled out support for ChromeOS making it easier for users to play their favorite games on your Chromebooks easily.

The company today announced that it was launching GeForce Now on ChromeOS in beta mode. With this, Chromebook users join the millions of GeForce users access the service from their PCs, Mac computers, SHIELD and Android mobile devices.

Accessing this cloud-based service on Chromebook is really easy. All users need to do is head to play.geforcenow.com and log in with their GeForce Now accounts. Once they have logged in, they need to choose if they have a paid Founders membership or a free account to complete the process and start playing their favorite gaming titles.

Apart from announcing the launch support for ChromeOS in beta mode, the company also announced that soon Chromebook users will be able to access their Steam library on their PCs.

“PC gamers are intimately familiar with Steam. Many have massive libraries from the popular PC game store. To support them, we just launched Steam Game Sync so they can sync games from their Steam library with their library in GeForce NOW. It’s quickly become one of our most popular features for members playing on PC and Mac...Soon, Chromebook owners will be able to take advantage of the feature, too,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Notably, while the streaming service has rolled out support for ChromeOS, one important feature remains missing from the update. As per a Gizmodo report, the company hasn’t added the ability to automatically adjust the service to poor network settings yet. Users require a speed of 25Mbps or more for the service flawlessly and the minimum speed required to avoid lag is 15Mbps.

The report notes that on Chromebook the option to automatically adjust to poor network condition renders the games unplayable at a speed that is lower than 25Mbps. Nvidia told the publication that it will add more network settings to ChromeOS over time. Till that happens, Chromebook users will have to ensure a strong internet connection to access the service.
