2021 MacBook Pro to come with Apple’s M1X chip

Apple is expected to launch updated MacBook Pro laptops this year. Ahead of the official launch, reports have shared details as to what we should expect from the updated lineup. Now, a new report sheds more light in this regard.

9To5Mac citing a source with a decent track record said that the upcoming MacBook Pro models are expected to be powered by Apple's ARM-based M1X chipset instead of the M2 chipset.

The report says that M1X will not be a new chipset but a highly improved version of the company’s M1 chipset. It is expected to feature more thunderbolt ports, along with more CPU cores, GPU cores, and support for multiple external monitors. All of this will not only improve the performance of this chipset but also increase its power consumption.

Chipset aside, the new MacBook Pro is likely to come with a 1080p web camera, an SD card reader, three thunderbolt USB Type-C ports, an updated MagSafe port and an HDMI port. Besides this, Apple is expected to drop the ‘MacBook Pro’ branding in the upcoming MacBook Pro models while reducing the bezels. Additionally, the new models that are likely to be available in 14-inch and 16-inch size variants are likely to feature flat edges just like the iPad Pro that was released last year.

This report is consistent with the Bloomberg report, which stated that Apple is planning two different chips -- Jade C Chop and Jade C Die -- with eight performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, which will be offered in either 16 or 32 graphics core variants. He also says that the new chips will differ in design from the M1 chipset, which has four performance cores, four energy-efficient cores and eight graphics cores. This chip was also used in the 13-inch MacBook Pro that was launched last year.

That said, there is no word on when Apple will launch the new MacBook Pro variants. So for now, all we can do wait for Apple to reveal its plan.
