Imagine being in an emergency and your smartphone which is meant to help you in the situation of emergency is actually holding you back to call 911, the emergency number! Seems terrifying right? This actually happened! A Reddit user took to the platform to share its experience in which the user was unable to call emergency services on its Pixel 3 smartphone.
“I had to call an ambulance for the grandmother on Friday as she appeared to be having a stroke... proceeded to dial 911 just by typing and calling on my pixel. My phone got stuck immediately after one ring and I was unable to do anything other than click through apps with an emergency phone call running in the background,” the Reddit user wrote in the post.
Though Reddit's user post is dated around 11 days ago, the tech giant Google responded to the issue on Reddit after 9 days. Thankfully, at least we have an answer for this issue! Google informed that in their investigation the emergency call restriction issue is under a limited set of circumstances and only to a small number of devices, which have installed the Microsoft Teams app when the user is not logged in. "We determined that the issue was being caused by unintended interaction between the Microsoft Teams app and the underlying Android operating system," Google said in the reply.
Due to the issue that impacts emergency calling, Google and Microsoft both prioritized the issue and expect to release the Microsoft Teams update soon. Google also advised users to keep an eye on the latest update to ensure that their app is running on the latest version. Google will also roll out the Android update to the Android ecosystem on January 4, 2022. Till that time, Google asked the users using the Microsoft Team to ensure that they are running on Android 10 and above versions and check the following essentials:
- If you are using Microsoft Teams, check if you are signed in. The issue of emergency calls is only with the users who aren't signed in to the Microsoft teams.
- If you haven't signed in with Microsoft Teams, then uninstall the app and reinstall it. Make sure to sign in. However, this is a temporary solution, for the permanent fix, Microsoft Teams update will be required.
- Keep an eye for the upcoming updates to Microsoft Teams app.
