Google’s Android TV dongle named ‘Sabrina’ is a step closer to launch

Looks like Google’s ‘Sabrina’ TV dongle is a step closer to its official launch. Two new devices have shown up on FCC listings as per 9to5Mac and are said to be related to Android TV. Although there’s no name given, a report from XDA Developer’s from June suggests the arrival of a TV dongle codenamed ‘Sabrina’. The ones that have showed up on FCC now might be the same product along with a remote controller. 

Out of the two filings, one of them is said to be an ‘Interactive Media Streaming Device’ that supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while the second one is a ‘Wireless Device’ that supports Bluetooth and power cover, reports 9to5 Google.

The arrival of Google’s ‘Sabrina’ will be a boost to the Android TV as you don’t have many products out there that run the OS until unless your TV has it built in. For now, you get Xiaomi Mi Box 4K, Nvidia Shield and Mi TV Stick as some of the options that run on Android TV. However, it still seems to be a long way before we get enough Android TV devices in the market.

It is not for sure when this product will be launched. We may likely see it coming out alongside the Pixel 4A 5G or Pixel 5 in September or October this year though.

The XDA Developers report from June showed ‘Sabrina’ as a pebble-shaped Chromecast that’s slightly taller than the current version of the device. There is a ‘G’ embossed on the top and the device comes in three colours - black, white and pink (or sand?). There’s also a flat HDMI cable and the connector that’s the same colour as the body. We also got a look at the remote controller.
