Here’s a look at Google’s new Android TV dongle, new UI and new remote

Reports of Google’s plans for a new Chromecast Ultra, that’s based on Android TV, were doing the rounds last month and these were followed up by more details on the operating system. New leaks spotted now give us a better look at the next Chromecast, its remote and the new look the Google TV is going to get.

Photos acquired by XDA Developers show a pebble-shaped Chromecast that’s slightly taller than the current version of the device. 

There is a ‘G’ embossed on the top and the device comes in three colours - black, white and pink (or sand?). You can also spot a flat HDMI cable and the connector that’s the same colour as the body.

The new remote has a circular D-pad on top with six circular buttons underneath it - there is the Assistant, Home, Favourite, Play/Pause and Volume buttons. 

The leaked renders also give you a look at back of the remote.

Render details of the content-focused Android TV, which might be the rebranded Google TV when the new Chromecast launches, has a homescreen that starts with a top bar with the search on the top left corner. This tab is followed by For You, Movies, TV, Live, Apps and My Library. This is pretty similar to the current Play Store layout on Android TV.

Other capabilities coming in include the ability to ‘Manage your home from your couch’ with a ‘Noise detected’ notification widget popping up on the bottom left of the screen.

These photos are all screengrabs from a video that plays during the setup process. The firmware XDA acquired suggests that the Chromecast will come with an Amlogic chip that supports Dolby Vision. 

Chromecast has been codenamed Sabrina, the retail name has not been announced yet.
