Xiaomi’s new patents reveal futuristic smartphone with a wraparound display, transparent back panel

Xiaomi is working on a new concept smartphone which features a wraparound display and a transparent back panel. The phone also has a large single camera on the back.

According to patents filed by the company at CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration), the phone has 5G connectivity and a 108-megapixel Super Camera with AI. It was first spotted by TechiesBlog.

LetsGoDigital has published colour renders of the phone, revealing full-screen notch-less display on the front. The photos also show the phone with a wraparound display on the back. There are two versions of the back panel with the first one sporting a black panel on the top. The other one has the transparent module, similar to Xiaomi’s Explorer Edition phones.

The phone has a single button for power on the top. The panel also houses mic. The base has speaker, USB Type-C port, and mic. The patent also reveals the phone has “AI GPU” and “MIUI”.

The design appears to be an extension of the Mi Mix Alpha 5G. The concept phone has a wrap-around-like flex display. The phone features 5G support display acoustic sound, and a 108-megapixel camera.

Mi Mix Alpha 5G runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor coupled with 12GB of RAM and 512GB built-in storage. The phone is powered by a 4,050mAh battery with 40W fast charging support.

The new patents are unlikely to transition into a real product anytime sooner. But it is good to see Xiaomi continuing with the concept and making more improvements. That said, these phones are going to be quite expensive if they launch commercially. Xiaomi had said Mi Mix Alpha 5G concept phone could have cost about ₹2 lakh if launched in India commercially.
