Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series, comprising a trio of smartphones—the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event on January 22. The event was held physically in San Jose, California, United States. At the annual event, Samsung announced its flagship phones and introduced a range of innovative AI features as part of the Galaxy AI suite. All three smartphones in the Galaxy S25 series are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and come with 12GB RAM as standard. However, it is the AI features that truly set these devices apart from the current generation.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was the showstopper of the event. The phone features a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. In terms of design, the Galaxy S25 Ultra stands out with its titanium frame and Corning Gorilla Armor 2, an advanced material touted to be more durable than traditional glass. This design makes the smartphone slimmer and lighter compared to previous models. The device measures 77.6 x 162.8 x 8.2mm and weighs 218g.
For photography, the Galaxy S25 Ultra includes an advanced camera setup. It boasts a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 200MP wide camera with optical image stabilisation, and two telephoto lenses - one with 5x optical zoom and another with 3x optical zoom. On the front, it has a 12MP camera for selfies.
Samsung Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus are both powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, which offers a 40% faster NPU performance, 37% faster CPU performance, and 30% faster GPU performance. The new processor claims to provide better on-device AI performance including the existing cloud-based AI features. The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus feature a 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate.
For photography, the smartphones feature a triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto lens. On the front, they come with a 12MP selfie camera. For lasting performance, the Galaxy S25 is backed by a 4000mAh battery, whereas, the Galaxy S25 Plus comes with a 4900mAh battery. The vanilla models support a 25W adapter and the Plus variant supports a 45W adapter. Lastly, both devices come with wireless charging 2.0.
Samsung debuted Google's Circle to Search feature with the Galaxy S24 series last year, alongside the Google Pixel 8 lineup, and gradually expanded it to more OEMs. Since its debut, the feature has become a hallmark of both Google and Samsung devices, earning recognition as one of the best AI tools on Android.
Now, Circle to Search has been upgraded—it can now recognise phone numbers, URLs, and email addresses, allowing users to access websites, make calls, and more with a single tap.
Imagine asking your phone's assistant to adjust the display size, searching for a specific photo in your gallery by simply describing it, or adding your favourite sports team's schedule to your calendar with a single command. All this is now possible on the Galaxy S25 series, thanks to Gemini.
You can trigger Gemini using the side button on the Galaxy S25 devices. It works seamlessly across Samsung and Google apps, as well as third-party apps like Spotify, delivering a more integrated and intuitive experience.
The S25 series also brings AI tools like Call Transcripts, Drawing Assist, and Writing Assist—similar to the Writing Tools on Apple's Intelligence-supported devices.
Call Transcripts: This feature provides real-time transcriptions of calls and even generates summaries for easy reference.
Drawing Assist: A tool that helps create illustrations using text prompts, images, or sketches.
Writing Assist: Designed to enhance your writing experience, whether composing emails or taking notes.
With on-device AI gaining popularity—particularly with Apple's recent advancements—Samsung has introduced its own take with the “Personal Data Engine” on the Galaxy S25 series. This engine enables on-device data analysis to provide personalised experiences without compromising privacy.
One of its key features, Now Brief, offers tailored suggestions accessible directly from the lock screen. Samsung emphasises that all personalised data remains private and secure, safeguarded by Knox Vault.
