Lately, things have not been shaping up well for LG as the South Korean tech firm recently confirmed it’s plans to sell the smartphone division. And, we may be seeing some results of this decision in the form of launch delays. A new report from South Korea's Chosun outlet, reportedly states that the handset maker’s upcoming successor to LG V60, dubbed as ‘Rainbow’ is on indefinite hold.

A source familiar with the matter told the outlet that LG, along with the carrier partners, have decided to not push ahead with the field testing of the particular handset. It's worth mentioning that the testing was supposed to begin last month (February). Also mentioned is that LG was supposed to launch the ‘Rainbow’ smartphone in March once the field testing was done.

The original March release window also falls in line with the report from December last year. The report pointed out that the upcoming LG V60 successor, might feature Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset, along with Wacom active stylus support.

Although LG has not yet confirmed what happens to its smartphone business in future, and if we will ever see a LG V60 successor, many questions still revolve around the future of the company's handset business. Nothing can be confirmed until that is sorted.

On a related note, a recent report by Yonhap News suggested that the LG Rollable may be put on hold. LG later clarified that no such final decision has been made yet.

“I can firmly deny that any such decision on future mobile products has been finalized,” The Verge quoted an LG spokesperson as saying. According to the Yonhap News report, LG informed its suppliers of putting the development of its rollable phone on hold. The report added that suppliers which include Chinese display maker BOE, may request for compensation.
