Apple’s Silicon-based iMac to launch in first half of 2021

Apple back at WWDC 2020 announced that it would be transitioning from Intel’s processors to its own Silicon chipset in its Mac computers in the coming two years. Now, a new report details what this transition would look like.

According to a report by China Times, Apple will introduce new iMac computers powered by its own Silicon chipset in the first half of 2021. The new iMac computers that will be launched next year will be powered by the company’s A14T chipset that has been made using TSMC’s 5nm processor. The processor that is codenamed Mt Jade will come with a new GPU codenamed Lifuka that is also made by the company.

But those are not the first of Apple’s personal computers and laptops that will come with Apple’s Silicon chipset. As per an older report by tipster Jon Prossor, Apple will hold a special Mac event on November 17 -- third Apple event this fall -- wherein the company will launch the first of Mac computers that are powered by the Apple Silicon.

Now, the report by the publication states that Apple will launch a new MacBook and iPad Pro that will be powered by the company A14X chipset in November this year confirming the report by the tipster. The A14X chipset codenamed Tonga will also be manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm process.

The report also says that Apple’s research and development team has also begun working on the next-generation of chipsets. The report says that the development of the A15 Bionic chipset is in the works and that they will also be made using TSMC’s 5nm process. The production of the SoC is expected to begin in the third quarter of the year. Lastly, the report states that the second-generation Apple Silicon chipset, which will include A15x and the A15T chipset will also be launched next year and that they will use TSMC’s 5nm process for manufacturing.
