LG has started rolling out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for its 2018 OLED Smart TVs. The roll-out comes after the Apple TV application was made available on the 2018 models. The application was so far available on 2019 and 2020 models of the OLED Smart TVs.
According to MacRumors, many users have confirmed receiving and activating AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on their TVs. The report says that the features are being rolled out in a phased manner, so some users may have to wait a little longer for these two features.
As you already know, the AirPlay 2 support brings the ability to stream content such as music and videos from an iPhone or iPad to the LG TV, without the need for an Apple TV. The HomeKit support brings the ability to control the TV using Apple’s Home application or Siri voice assistant. The controls also include features such as adjusting the volume or switching on or off the smart TV.
According to 9to5Mac, LG had initially confirmed the availability of AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in 2019 and above smart TVs. The roadmap did not mention 2018 models. Evidently, LG has managed to add new features through a software update. AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are also available on other third-party TVs from brands such as Sony, Vizio and Samsung.
