iPhone stays under river for 10 MONTHS! This is what happened after switching it on

How durable are the present-day iPhone models? Apple makes big claims in the form of IP rating for stare and dust resistance, Ceramic Shield glass, and stronger overall construction. But how dies it translate in extreme situations, like when it has to stay under the river for 10 months? A recent case like that came up, where an iPhone was recovered from the bottom of a river in the UK. Once scooped out and dried, the phone started taking charge.

In June, Miguel Pacheo in one of his latest expeditions recovered an iPhone sunk deep in the river, said the Mydrivers report. The iPhone was wearing a case and had a tempered class installed on it. Pacheo at first did not have any hope of the device working but he still dried it out with an air compressor. He plugged in a Lightning charger and the phone started taking battery charge. But that is not all.

Pacheo eventually tried to boot it up and the phone started like normal. The iPhone booted into the lock screen showing the wallpaper of a man and a woman, with the date showing Friday 13, August. That meant the phone was dropped into the river last in August 13 last year, which is almost over 10 months.

Pacheo decided to take help of social media to locate the owner of the iPhone. After reaching almost 4000 people, the owner was found and handed back his lost iPhone. The man, called Davies, is from the UK and had gone a canoeing trip when he dropped the iPhone in the river.

Based on the images shared, it seems the phone is the iPhone XR; check out its single rear camera and a big fat Face ID notch at the front. The iPhone XR was IP67 water and dust resistance certified, which means it could survive accidental splashes and dunks for a 30 minutes or less. Technically, this iPhone XR should have been long dead by now but somehow, it managed to hold itself together and kept working.

Hence, if you ever doubt whether an iPhone is any durable as Apple says, you now have your answer. Psst, don’t try to test those claims yourself.
