Google designed the Pixel 5 with the basics in mind, however, there seems to be a problem with it. According to reports, some early buyers have complained about a small gap between the display and the rest of the phone.

9to5Google reports that a few early Pixel 5 buyers have found their device to have a small gap under the display. While the gap is not wide enough to show the insides of the phone, it is big enough to collect dust. And this is understandably worrisome since it could compromise the IP68 water and dust resistance the Pixel 5 comes with.

Early reports of this gap in the Pixel 5 have been spotted on Google’s support forums and XDA Forums. In most of the cases, the gap is seen around the corner that houses the front-facing camera. Some other cases have the gap being spotted elsewhere.

Reports also indicate that the gap is present from the moment the phone has been unboxed so that’s borderline “comforting” as it could be a manufacturing issue. As 9to5Google points out, had the gap appeared after the phone had been used, that would be a very serious cause of concern.

Android Police noticed the issue on their Pixel 5 review unit though for them it was not as pronounced as it was in some other cases and nor was the gap in the same location as spotted on many other phones. For a unit purchased by 9to5Google in the UK, there was a small gap at the corners.

The Pixel 5 hit the markets just last week and the smartphone is yet to go on sale everywhere, so it is not known how widespread the issue is yet. As per reports, the Just Black model has reported more issues as compared to the Sorta Sage.

Google is yet to comment on this.
