Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery is less than 11 Pro Max’s, reveals regulatory filing

If you are familiar with Apple iPhones and their specifications, you might also be aware that the company never reveals the RAM and battery capacity officially. There’s no mention of the GB and mAh numbers during the event or on the website. So, it leaves us with regulatory websites and teardowns that we come to know about them. This time, the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery capacity is out in the open, thanks to Chinese regulatory filing website Tenaa (via Apple Insider). And while this is Apple’s most powerful and largest iPhone, it is surprisingly not big on the battery.

As mentioned in the filing, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 3,687mAh battery capacity. That is some 300mAh less than what the iPhone 11 Pro Max had when it launched last year. If you just believe in numbers, then iPhone 12 Pro Max might not seem like a good handset with better battery life. However, the company does optimise the battery performance with the UI, processor, GPU, display and other factors in a such a way that the handsets, despite having same or less battery, run for similar time period or even more.

So, despite the difference in capacities, the official Apple website says that both 11 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max deliver up to 20 hours of video playback, up to 12 hours of streamed video playback and up to 80 hours of audio playback. The only difference is that 12 Pro Max supports 20W fast charging while last year’s model goes up to 18W only.

What’s more is that the Tenaa listing also reveals the RAM capacity of the handset, which as rumoured before as well, is 6GB. It was reported before the launch that while the Pro models will have 6GB RAM, the non-Pro iPhone 12 handsets will come with 4GB RAM.
