Apple rolls out iOS 12.4.7 with security fixes to older iPhones that don’t support iOS 13

While Apple rolled out iOS 13.5 to all the compatible iPhones yesterday (May 21), it also released a different version for older devices that don’t support iOS 13. The company rolled out iOS 12.4.7 to iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air (1st-gen), iPad mini 2, mini 3 and iPhone Touch (6th-gen). If you are expecting to get a massive update with iOS 12.4.7, you are wrong. The update is not comprehensive and just includes security fixes.

You can download iOS 12.4.7 on your eligible iPhones using these steps:

-Open the Settings app.

-Tap on the ‘General’ option.

-Tap on ‘Software Update’.

-Tap on Download and Install.

What however, is a big update is the iOS 13.5. The update has been rolled out to iPhone SE, 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone 7, 7 Plus, iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X, Xr, Xs, Xs Max, iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

The update speeds up access to the passcode field on handsets that support FaceID while you are wearing a face mask. Face recognition with masks works with authentication in the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes and other apps that support signing in with Face ID.

It also introduces the Exposure Notification API to support Covid-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities. In addition to this, iOS 13.5 brings an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles on Group FaceTime calls and includes several other bug fixes with improvements.

Make sure your iPhone has over 50% charge at the time of update installation and is connected to the Wi-Fi.
