Teenager orders deeply discounted iPhone, gets coffee table instead: Report

A teenager from Thailand who thought he had bagged the deal of a lifetime when he saw an ad for a cheap iPhone was in for a rude shock when the product was finally delivered. Instead of his favourite phone, he received a coffee table shaped like Apple’s popular smartphone which he then shared on social media.

According to a report by Oriental Daily, the teenager had purchased what he thought was an iPhone from an e-commerce website, for a very cheap price. But when the package finally arrived, something about the size seemed completely wrong. Instead of a box with an iPhone that should have been no longer than his arm, the teenager received a box that was nearly the same height as him.

The teenager posted images of himself along with the table on social media. He also reportedly found the price was rather cheap and that the shipping price didn’t seem right, presumably because of the larger size of the table.

According to the images shared by the teenager, the white coloured table actually looks like a good replica of front of the iPhone 8, complete with the metallic finish for the sides and a shiny dark rectangle area representing the screen, with a circular area for Apple’s capacitive TouchID scanner.

However, according to the report, this wasn’t a case of cheating or consumer fraud. While many thought the teenager was scammed into buying a different product than one that was advertised, it turns out that the teenager pushed the order button without checking the product’s description, which reportedly showed it was an iPhone shaped coffee table.
