Wi-Fi calling rolls out to Vi subscribers on iPhone: Check compatible devices

Wi-Fi calling is one of the most useful improvements to modern phone calling, allowing users to make regular calls over a Wi-Fi network instead of a cellular network. All the three major carriers, Airtel, Vi and Jio have supported making calls over Wi-Fi for a while - now iPhone users will also be able to take advantage of this feature.

The rollout of Wi-Fi calling isn’t exactly new and consumers have been able to make calls over Wi-Fi network for a while now, but now Vi users in Marahastra and Goa, Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, who have a 4G enabled SIM card can call their contacts over Wi-Fi, according to a report by the Indian Express.

Wi-Fi calling on the iPhones means that users can now make calls even when they do not have any network connectivity - as long as they are connected to a Wi-Fi network. This could come in handy in homes or workplaces that do not have a cellular network tower nearby, where mobile data is extremely unreliable. The feature could come in handy for users who need to make calls from inside their homes during the pandemic, where going outdoors for better network connectivity may not be an option.

According to Vodafone’s website, Wi-Fi calling should be working on the iPhone 6s and above, which means that every single iPhone running iOS 14 should be able to make calls over Wi-Fi. The iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max should all be able to run the feature, according to the report.
