Apple Maps now shows Covid-19 vaccine locations

Apple has updated its Maps app. The update shows Covid-19 vaccine locations in Apple’s navigation app.

The company today announced that it has updated Apple Maps with Covid-19 vaccine locations from VaccineFinder, which is an online service developed by Boston Children’s Hospital that provides the latest vaccine availability for those eligible at providers and pharmacies. With this update, Apple device users can find their nearby Covid-19 vaccine location from the Search bar in Apple Maps by selecting COVID-19 Vaccines in the Find Nearby menu.

Alternatively, they can also ask Siri for their nearby vaccine locations. All they need to do is say, “Siri, where can I get a COVID vaccination?”.

In Apple Maps, the place card for each vaccine site will include detailed information including operating hours, address, phone numbers, and a link to the provider’s website, where users can learn more about available vaccines and book appointments. Apple said this information will include more than 20,000 locations across the US. The company will add information about more details in the coming week.

It is worth noting that while Apple has finally started showing vaccine location in Maps, Google started rolling out similar information in its navigation app, Google Maps, back in January this year. Alphabet Inc CEO Sundar Pichai while announcing the news had also announced a grant of $150 million for promoting vaccine-related education and equitable distribution.
