Online service monitoring tool Downdetector saw a rise in user complaints at around 7 AM IST. The site showed that over 6,000 users had claimed they were unable to access the microblogging service at the time. Downdetector is a free web service that allows users to report the unavailability of services and websites, offering better insights when a service goes offline or is unavailable.

Earlier today, users took to Downdetector to report they were unable to access the service. (Downdetector)

Twitter resolved the issues with its service within three hours after acknowledging the reports of users being unable to access profiles’ tweets. According to the Downdetector website, a majority of users (about 93 percent) were not able to access the website, which dropped down to around 2,000 user reports as Twitter began working to restore access.

At 9:07 AM the service posted a tweet saying that people should be able to load tweets on user profiles, but other parts of Twitter were still not loading properly for some users. Twitter support finally tweeted that the service was restored at 10 AM. However, users were still unable to access the service for a couple of hours after that. Finally, we were able to access the site, the search function and user profiles properly at around 1 PM.

Meanwhile, Twitter recently announced that it was adding support for security keys to be added as the only form of two-factor authentication for user accounts. This means that users will now be able to use a security key, like a YubiKey, to secure their Twitter accounts from phishing and hacking attempts. These security keys are much more secure than using SMS for authentication, and Twitter users can make sure of this feature right away.
