Dungeons and Dragons TV series in the works

By the looks of it, the next few years are going to be all about big-budget, high-fantasy shows on TV. Keeping the legacy of the Game of Thrones alive, Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time and the House of the Dragon are coming soon. And there’s one more that you can add to the list - Dungeons & Dragons, the iconic roleplaying game is going to be made into a TV series soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator behind the John Wick series. Derek Kolstad, is working on a series for Paramount and Hasbro. However, this project is entirely different from the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) movie that’s going to star Chris Pine.

Kolstad wrote the original script for the first John Wick and shared story credit for the two follow ups, the Nerdist reports. And he also has been a writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Marvel Studios.

This is actually the second time D&D is going to hit the air. There was a kids’ cartoon that ran for two seasons in the 1980’s. This coincided with the time when the game was a sensation on one hand but parents were worried about the “Satanic Panic” gripping the US on the other. Parents wanted the game banned and in an effort to placate them and make it all seem safe for kids, a Saturday morning cartoon version was created.

The game has witnessed a recent surge of popularity over the pandemic with many families playing while they were locked down. Sales for D&D saw a 20% last year over the previous year.

And it looks like Paramount and Hasbro want to make the most of this opportunity and push out a TV series while the time is still ripe and people are interested.
