nCore Games CEO says he got multiple legal notices for calling out gambling apps

Fresh after the release of locally created mobile game FAU-G, nCore Games CEO Vishal Gondal recently revealed on Twitter that he had received multiple defamation notices after he spoke up against gambling apps in the country.

Gondal recently tweeted that he had written an article about the evils of gambling on Medianama, a website that focuses on technology-related laws and policy news and that he had followed the write-up tweeting about these issues to Prime Minister’s Office, Niti Aayog, Members of Parliament and the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).

Gondal prefaced his message with the quote from Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” and went on to state that over a month later, he had received multiple criminal and civil defamation notices from people across the country and attached a link to a Google Drive folder containing six legal notices, from Delhi, Dhakoli, Gwalior, Indore, Nainital and Solan. Gondal urged his followers to read the notices, terming them hilarious.

“I apprehend that multifarious proceedings may be filed against me in different parts of the country to cause harassment, which I'm prepared to defend, if so required,” he said in a paragraph of text tweeted as an image. “It goes without saying; I will respond to these frivolous and baseless notices and have full faith in India's courts,” he added.

Gondal also stated that as an avid and passionate gamer, he felt it was “high time that we come together to make Indian eSports the best and make our country the global leader in eSports”. He also urged the gaming community, government, media and civil society to “raise the issue of getting gambling under all surrogate forms under strict government regulation and oversight as many innocent kids and youths (sic) are losing their lives, money and future to this harmful addiction.”
