Your smartphone has to deal with several apps, photos, videos and other online activity that keeps the pile of junk files soaring day by day till it starts slowing down. This leads to mush frustration as it takes too long to carry out simple tasks and some tasks even become impossible. However, the mess created by temporary files, unnecessary downloads, and cache collected from the poorly performing apps can be overcome.

Unfortunately, unlike the Windows system, Android smartphones do not have their own recycle bin. The lack of a universal recycle bin that stores your deleted files makes the task a little tricky. Though, most Android smartphones have their own trash system which you need to empty individually to free up the excess storage occupied by unnecessary downloads and cache files. Therefore, we have listed here the simple steps that can help get rid of an app’s cache, app data files, and other unnecessary items. Note that the steps may slightly differ from device to device but it will help you guide towards the trash of your Android phone. Know how to empty the Trash on an Android smartphone for several files such as Photos, file manager, and more. Remember, the steps may be different, depending on the phone and the OS updated to.

How to empty the Photos Trash on Android smartphone

  • Open the Google Photos app on your Android Smartphone.
  • Go to the Library in the bottom bar in Photos.
  • Now, tap “Trash” on the “Library” screen at the top. Now, tap the three dots on the right-top corner.
  • Select “Empty Trash.”
  • This will ask you to choose “Allow” to confirm your choice.
  • And Google Photos will permanently delete all the photos from the trash.

How to empty the files by Google on Android smartphone

  • Using Files by Google as your file manager? You can clear the trash from here too. Open the Files by Google app on your phone.
  • Now, in the top-left corner, tap the hamburger menu.
  • Select “Trash.” This will show up the deleted files.
  • You can select all your files by choosing “All Items.”
  • Now at the bottom, tap on “Delete.” And it's done!

How to remove your Android app cache and data files

Step 1:

Move ahead to the Settings of your phone. 

Step 2:

Now find storage under the Settings. It may be available under Others or Apps. 

Step 3:

Now tap the app you want to clear the cache for in the Apps. 

Step 4:

Note that you may need to tap Storage in the app information menu to access the feature.

Step 5:

Now click on the Clear cache button. This will not clear all the data. 

Step 6:

To clear everything completely, you need to tap Clear storage or Clear data.

Step 7:

Android users should note that this will remove all settings, files, accounts, and more.
