iPhone 14 Plus, not iPhone 14 Max, to replace the iPhone 13 mini? Rumour suggests so

iPhone 14 Plus – that is now said to be the name of the new 6.6-inch non Pro iPhone 14. The new addition to the iPhone range this year is expected to bring back the “Plus” moniker instead of using the “Max” name. Apple last used the “Plus” to denote the larger 5.5-inch variant of the iPhone 8 Plus, which was launched in 2017. Nothing official from Apple yet but it seems that the iPhone 14 Plus could be paving the way for people to spend more on the larger sized iPhone 14 this year.

The rumour comes from a Korean blog that talks about the naming schemes of the iPhone 14 models. The standard 6.06-inch iPhone will be called the iPhone 14 whereas the bigger 6.6-inch iPhone will be called the iPhone 14 Plus. No reason as to why this will happen but that is what the rumour says. It also says that the Pro versions will have the same name we have known them or long – iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 14 Plus is bigger standard iPhone this year

Apple used the “Plus” for its 5.5-inch iPhone 6 back in 2014. Ever since then, Apple kept the tradition of having a large Plus-sized iPhone with the same 5.5-inch display. The iPhone 6S got it, and so did the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. However, with the iPhone XS generation, Apple dropped the Plus moniker and moved to Max.

Many say that the Plus variant could help Apple justify to its customers why they should buy the iPhone 14 Pro Max – the Max could refer to a maxed out 6.6-inch iPhone 14 while the Plus could simply refer to a plus-sized vanilla iPhone 14.

This year, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are said to remain largely unchanged from the iPhone 13 generation. It is said that Apple is considering using the older A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13 on the iPhone 14. The front camera is set to get an upgrade with a 6P lens with autofocus functionality.
