Apple was happy with its first ever online WWDC conference, may do it again

A few days ago Apple held its first ever online-only WWDC conference due to the ongoing pandemic. Before the event, fans were too eager to see how Apple manages to pull an online only event, something it has never done before in recent years. However, the keynote event was very well carried out and looks like Apple may do it again, as mentioned by Apple’s vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi. This was revealed in popular YouTuber, Marques Brownlee’s Waveform podcast.

In the podcast, Federighi claimed that the production team ‘moved mountains’ to put together the online-only WWDC keynote. He even added that the finished version was not shown to him until it was aired on Monday for everyone around the globe. He did say that Apple can definitely apply some lessons learned here.

However, later in the podcast, Federighi talked about the new widgets that are introduced for home screen in iOS 14. Although not mentioned during the presentation, Federighi said that Apple’s approach towards widgets may change and that these might not be limited to the homescreen.

When asked if the macOS Big Sur is slowly becoming iOS-like, Federighi confirmed that it won’t be the case “I feel that after you use the UI for [a while], it feels natural and fresh and clearly, distinctly Mac,” he said. “I love it.”

Talking about OSes, it was only after the event when the first developer beta of iOS 14 came out and some new features were unveiled - things that were not mentioned during the presentation. Some of them include SMS filter, Back Tap accessibility feature, setting third party email clients and browsers as defaults and updated Find My app to support third-party devices
